The road goes on forever, the story never ends

Bicycle adventures are not like other kinds of travel adventures. You will experience more in a country by bicycle than with any other kind of transport. A bicycle is the way to travel. Every cyclist knows that. I can tell, I have my own adventures, adventure cycling, if you wish, which I am going to share with you.

How does this benefit you? Through my experiences and tips you will be find great destinations few traveler go to. Get off the beaten path and still see the main attractions, isn't that something exciting?

I assume some of my experiences could be very useful for you. In some areas I have spend more time (for example a year in India, two years in China), so I can add a bit more info. Other areas were quicker done. So, where do we start the adventure?

Adventure Cycling is based on rhythms, like most things in life. We're not always aware of those rhythms but once you're in "the Great Wide Open", you realize how rhythms control your journey. Cycling is not difficult. In fact, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, can do it. You don't think you can do it?

However, many people do not want it. Still, cycling is a great way to explore the earth. As Robert Earl Keen Jr., the great Texas songwriter wrote: "The road indeed goes on forever, the story never ends". And once on the road, you never know where your bicycle will bring you. Once in the rhythm you feel the magic. The magic of the flatlands, the magic of the sea or the mountains, the magic of the people you will meet. Riding your bicycle is not just getting some bicycle adventures, cycling gives you a full and complete life. There's nothing like cycling!

So, what will you find on this adventure bicycle cycling website? Just personal adventures? No, my intention is to give you a taste of what adventure cycling is. You will find some very useful information about cycling in general and some information about the countries I have traveled in general. Things like visa, hotels, food, do's and don't, a bit of culture etc. All is spiced up with stories from the curve.

Stories like when I cycled in China. Over the two years I was there I had many adventures, Check some photos here, but I also collected Entrance Tickets. You know them, tickets you get when you enter a famous site. But I had way to many nice looking tickets so I created also a separate page with scans of more of those tickets.

The road was always a rewarding place for me. I met lots of fantastic people, see for example my meeting with a very local Chinese long distance cyclist. It didn't matter were I was. On my bicycle adventure in Turkey I learned what friendship meant, Iran taught me hospitality, China was a knock out while India was the country of contradictions. And Malaysia gave me a second home. And all I did was cycling from one place to another.

And after some time, being on the road, and in some areas I was often days alone, I even started to talk to my bicycle, yes, I even gave him a name. Now we went through quite a bit. Interested? You should! Here's Jim's (my bicycle) story.

Many people say that bicycling is cheap. It's true in some ways. I'll tell you a little about material and what to take with you. I'm not a techie, so don't worry it'll be too technical. When you ride your bicycle, your main target is the bicycle adventure itself. I have never cared too much about all the mechanics but some basics you need, depending where you cycle to. After all, you are on a bicycle journey, not at a technical university!

Other people say bicycle riding is only for strong and healthy men. In fact, everybody is able to ride a bicycle. All you need is the will to cycle from A to B. Age or sex do not matter. And every road you travel is an adventure. Even an 8 years old kid could do Pangkor to Penang, 250 km on his child bike (with me). Talk about a bicycle adventure! So, let's explore the world with my own bicycle adventures. Well, the world is maybe a bit too enthusiastic. So, let's see where it ends up. Let's visit countries like Pakistan, Iran, Italy, Turkey, Laos, China and many more. Let's see what the world offers!
